Mastering the "Shake and Bake": The Ultimate Doubles Power Play
Share
The Most Exciting Play in Doubles
If you’ve watched professional matches, you’ve seen it: one player drives the ball hard (the Shake), while their partner crashes the net for a high-velocity put-away (the Bake). This is the Shake and Bake, and when executed correctly, it is nearly indefensible.
Step 1: The Setup (The Shake)
The player at the baseline must hit a low, hard drive—preferably at the opponent's hip or the middle of the court. This requires a paddle with significant Power Potential, like the Xephira Pro Series, to force a weak pop-up.
Step 2: The Finish (The Bake)
As the drive is hit, the partner must already be moving. You are looking for that floating return. With the quick maneuverability of a Xephira paddle, you can snap the ball down before the opponents can reset their feet.
Pro Tip: Communication is key. A simple "Drive!" call lets your partner know the Bake is on.
