The Art of the Offensive Lob: When to Break the Kitchen Deadlock

Breaking the Rhythm: The Most Underutilized Pro Weapon
Most players view the lob as a desperate defensive move. However, in Professional Grade play, the Offensive Lob is a calculated strike designed to punish opponents who lean too far into the kitchen.
The Perfect Setup
To execute a successful offensive lob, you must first establish a consistent dink rhythm. Once your opponent is comfortable and their weight is shifted forward, a subtle change in paddle face angle sends the ball over their non-dominant shoulder.
Three Rules for the Offensive Lob:
- Disguise: Your backswing must look identical to a standard dink.
- Height vs. Depth: It’s not about how high it goes, but how deep it lands. Aim for the baseline.
- The Follow-up: Always be ready for the "overhead" return, but if executed correctly, your opponent will be scrambling backwards, giving you full court control.
Mastering this shot requires a paddle with extreme touch, such as the Xephira Classic for feel or the Pro for added spin.
