Ready for Gold? Your First Tournament Checklist
Signing up for your first pickleball tournament is a milestone. Whether it's a local round-robin or a regional qualifier, the difference between winning and losing often happens before you step on the court.
1. The Gear Check (The Night Before)
Don't leave anything to chance. Ensure you have:
- Two Paddles: Always have a backup. If your edge guard cracks mid-game, you need a spare Xephira Pro ready to go.
- Extra Balls: Tournaments provide balls, but you need your own for warm-ups.
- Court Shoes: Check your tread. Slipping is not an option.
2. Fuel and Hydration
Pickleball tournaments can last all day. Start hydrating 24 hours in advance. Pack easy-to-digest snacks like bananas, energy bars, and electrolyte drinks. Avoid heavy meals right before your bracket starts.
3. Mental Preparation
Nerves are normal. Arrive at least 45 minutes early to acclimate to the court surface and lighting. Remember, everyone starts somewhere. Play your game, trust your training, and command the court.
